For many women, sitting still in a room and talking about hard things is the most difficult version of therapy imaginable.
If you think more clearly when you're moving, or find that being outdoors helps you breathe more easily and say things you wouldn't otherwise say — walk and talk sessions were made for you.
Sessions take place in parks, bushland, and calm outdoor spaces near Mickleham or Narre Warren, combining evidence-based counselling with the regulating benefits of movement and nature.
Walking side-by-side reduces the intensity of face-to-face conversation, making it easier to open up, think clearly, and do meaningful work.
We meet at an agreed outdoor location and walk together at whatever pace feels comfortable — there is no fitness expectation and no pressure to keep moving if you need to pause, sit, or simply stand still for a while.
Sessions follow the same gentle structure as all Pawsitive Directions counselling: a check-in, grounding and regulation, therapeutic work guided by you, and a closing reflection to ensure you leave feeling settled.
Where appropriate, sessions can incorporate mindfulness, nature-based practices, wildlife observation, or your own animal companion.
This approach may suit you if:

To ensure your safety and comfort in an outdoor setting, please note the following before booking.
Sessions are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled or moved online at short notice if conditions are unsuitable — you will always be notified as early as possible.
Comfortable clothing and enclosed, flat footwear are required. Please dress for the weather and let me know of any physical needs or limitations that may affect your comfort or pace.
Walk and talk sessions take place in quieter public locations, however complete privacy cannot be guaranteed. We will always choose a location that minimises the likelihood of being overheard or interrupted.
Sessions can be paused, slowed, or moved to a seated area at any time — there is no expectation to keep moving if you need to stop.
A pre-session risk assessment is completed for each location, and your safety is always the primary consideration.
Walk and talk sessions take place in outdoor public environments and carry some specific considerations that differ from indoor counselling.
Before your first outdoor session we will discuss and agree on a suitable meeting location, an alternative plan if weather or safety concerns arise, any physical needs that may affect your comfort or pace, and how privacy is managed in a public setting.
By proceeding with walk and talk sessions you acknowledge that you have read and understood these considerations.
Full informed consent documentation will be provided and completed prior to your first session.
For safety purposes, session locations and times are logged with a nominated contact prior to each appointment.
Walk and talk counselling is not a crisis or emergency service.
If you are in immediate distress, please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 or call 000.
